Andrew Wallace is a former construction lawyer and the new speaker of the House of Representatives. He was first elected to parliament in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019. However, Mr. Wallace won the election by more than 70 votes. He replaced Peter Slipper, a Queenslander who held the seat of Fisher until 2012.

In addition to being the new speaker of the House of Representatives, Andrew Wallace MP will also be the new member for Fisher, a Sunshine Coast electorate. He is the first Queenslander to be elected to the role, replacing former Speaker Tony Smith. The Liberal Party nominated Mr. Wallace, a carpenter who had previously practiced law before becoming a politician. The Labor Party nominated Rob Mitchell, a Victorian, who is now the Member for McEwen. Despite the opposition from both sides, Mr. Wallace won with seventy votes and a good reputation.

A recent poll showed that Wallace had an impressive number of votes, making him the first Queenslander to hold the position since 2005. In fact, he is one of only two members of Parliament who has served as Speaker for five consecutive terms. The Liberals nominated Andrew Wallace to replace former Speaker Tony Smith. During the last election, he won by seven votes to the Labor Party’s nomination of Rob Mitchell, who represents McEwen in Victoria.

He is an excellent parliamentarian who has worked as a carpenter and a barrister before he was elected.
