Andrew Wallace – New Speaker of the House of Representatives

Andrew Wallace is a former construction lawyer and the new speaker of the House of Representatives. He was first elected to parliament in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019. In addition to being the new speaker of the House of Representatives, Andrew Wallace MP will also be the new member for Fisher, a Sunshine Coast electorate. He is the first Queenslander to be elected to the role, replacing former Speaker Tony Smith. The Liberal Party nominated Mr. Wallace, a carpenter who had previously practiced law before becoming a politician. During the last election, he won by seven votes to the Labor Party’s nomination of Rob Mitchell, who represents McEwen in Victoria.
