Subaru Levorg may add 2.4 turbo performance version to super-powered wagon

This past weekend Subaru unveiled the new generation WRX, but the WRX will only be available in Sedan form, with the Subaru Levorg taking over as the touring performance car! According to overseas media, the new 2.4L turbo engine in the WRX will be transplanted to the Levorg, giving it a new level of performance!

In the old days of the Impreza WRX, a Wagon touring version was available, but now the Wagon version seems to have disappeared, perhaps because of its small audience. But because of the ‘resurgence’ of the JDM performance car trend over the past few years, many Japanese brands have been actively launching performance cars, and Subaru, which has always been a performance-oriented company, can’t be left behind.

Based on the Subaru Global Platform, the new generation Levorg will debut in 2020 and will be powered by a newly developed 1.8L horizontal turbocharged engine with a maximum horsepower of 177 PS and peak torque of 300 Nm, mated to a CVT transmission. The Wagon is one of the most dynamic Wagons on the market, but still lags behind the mainstream Performance Car in terms of performance.

According to overseas media Motor1, Subaru is planning to build a “Levord WRX”, with the biggest focus on engine upgrades, as it will be powered by the 2.4L horizontally opposed turbocharged engine of the recently announced new generation WRX. For reference, the WRX has a maximum horsepower of 271 Hp/275 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual and the new Subaru Performance Transmission CVT gearbox, and further enhanced with an AWD system, in keeping with Subaru’s “off-road vibe”! The Levorg Performance Edition is designed primarily for the purpose of the “off-road”.

This Levorg performance version is intended to replace the Impreza WRX Wagon, which is a real rarity in the current market! So there’s bound to be a market for the Subaru! But the previous generation Levorg 1.6 Turbo version is already priced at RM 199,720 in China, how much will this performance version cost if introduced?
