49cc Scooter Buying Guide 2022
A quick guide to the best 49cc scooters available on the market: models, prices and saddle height from the ground.
A 49 cc scooter is not only the favorite vehicle of the very young – considering that they can be driven at the age of 14. In fact, these are agile, fast and inexpensive means of transport which, precisely because of these characteristics, may well represent a useful choice also for all those who are looking for a moped to use in the city, to go to work and – in general – cover medium or low range distances.
How to choose your first scooter.
Many times I happen to talk to people who are no longer young and beardless who want to approach driving a scooter for the first time.
The classic phrase: “my parents never wanted to take it, they were afraid …” or “finally now I can afford to take a scooter” are quite common.
It must also be said that the traffic of recent years is really bringing to their knees those who have to travel by car in large cities, now congested by a road system that leaves no way out.
Here then is that the scooter comes to meet us as the real solution to our problems of time and, why not? also of desire for freedom.
We have already dealt with choosing the safest scooter and how to choose it based on the work being done. The time has therefore come to tackle the problem of the first scooter of life .
Here are some assessments you will need to make.
How to choose your first scooter: here are the questions you need to ask yourself.
If you are old enough (like me in short) to have a car license that allows you to drive a scooter with a displacement greater than 125 cc (if you took it before 1986 in short) then you can evaluate all the displacements, but in my opinion you should stop at 149 cc.
If, on the other hand, you can’t drive anything other than the 50cc or the 125cc then the choice is narrow.
Choose a 50cc or higher displacement?
In my opinion, the choice of displacement should not be made based on the power of the motor.
In fact, it is true that, most of the time, I confess to the fear of those who have no experience in using a scooter over 49 cc because maybe it goes too fast compared to the driving skills.
In reality, you must always remember that a scooter goes at the speed that you impose on it and that therefore everything will hang from your hand!
On the contrary, if you buy a scooter that does not go at a speed higher than 45 km / h (because remember that it is the maximum speed of the fifties) you may find yourself in difficulty on high-traffic roads despite being in the city.
Here are some questions you will have to ask yourself.
Will you use it only and exclusively in the city?
If the answer is yes, on which roads?
In Milan, for example, there are streets like Via Corelli which are very narrow, but where cars and vans tend to go quite fast.
If you are in front of them with a 49 cc they might try to overtake you , but the narrow road could lead them to squeeze you too much, putting you in danger.
With a higher displacement (125 cc is enough) you could, in this situation, go up to 70 per hour, without risking being overtaken.
If, on the other hand, you only frequent the center , or quiet streets , the problem does not arise and you could easily evaluate the 49 cc too .
If, on the other hand, you must also attend the ring roads, you will have to go to displacements equal to or greater than 149 cc.
