Us and Them

Dream of Eternity
Dream of Eternity is an upcoming Chinese fantasy film, which stars Mark Chao and Deng Lun. It is based on the Japanese novel Onmyji, and is scheduled to be released in 2020. Interestingly, the film is being made now, and will not be released until the year 2020.
The film’s plot revolves around four masters who attempt to capture a serpent demon and trap it. The story is based on the novel “Onmyoji,” written by Japanese author Baku Yumemakura.
Aftershock
Aftershock is a drama film from China that tells the story of a family who are impacted by the 1976 Tangshan earthquake. In this film, a mother must choose between her son and daughter, whose lives are forever changed by the tragedy. The film stars Xu Fan, Li Chen, Zhang Jingchu, and Zhang Jiazhun.
Aftershock is an emotional, heartfelt drama about the victims of the Tangshan earthquake in China. The story follows three characters: Fang Deng, a man who is separated from his girlfriend Yang Zhi and her mother, Fang Da. In this story, Fang Deng hears his mother’s voice, telling rescue workers that he is paralyzed and must be saved. Aftershock is one of the best Chinese movies, and one that has opened in selected AMC theaters in the U.S.
Two-Stage Sisters
The Chinese movie Two-Stage Sisters follows the lives of two opera performers in a turbulent period. The movie is based on the novel by radical writer Lu Xun. Chunhua, a young girl who runs away from her arranged marriage, becomes an apprentice in an itinerant Yueju troupe. There, she meets Yuehong, the daughter of the master. The two develop a deep friendship, and they perform duets together. The girls’ dreams of fame come true when they’re bought by an opera troupe in Shanghai, and both women go on to become stars.
The movie’s aesthetic sensibility also reflects the changing nature of Chinese cinema in the late 1950s. Two-Stage Sisters combines elements of Hollywood melodrama with traditional Chinese opera. It also highlights the change from pre-war Chinese critical realism to the new socialist style in China.
