What Should You Consider: Delta 8 Or 10?

One of the wonders of the cannabis plant is the number of types the single plant has. From different strains and varieties to different isomers within the strains, cannabis never ceases to amaze. With the variability in the types of products of cannabis also comes a variability in terms of the effects of the different products. For example, when considering THC, the plant’s psychoactive component, different THC isomers have different effects and sensations. This article gives insight into Delta 10 and Delta 8, some of the most popular isomers of THC.

What is Delta 8 THC?

As with many cannabinoids, little is known about Delta 8 THC. As such, scientists are still in the process of gathering research as to the chemical properties and attributes of the cannabinoid. Delta 8 THC is not prevalent in the cannabis plant. It is present in trace quantities as compared to other cannabinoids. Therefore, for manufacturers to get Delta 8 THC to use in products such as pineapple express Delta 8, they have to extract it from hemp-derived CBD.

While Delta 8 is similar in functionality and properties when compared to Delta 10, it has some striking differences, as shall be discussed below.

What is Delta 10 THC?

As with Delta 8 THC, Delta 10 THC is also an isomer of THC. However, the isomer is equally present in trace amounts in the plant, even less in quantity than in Delta 8. Thus, most times, to obtain quantities that may be sufficient for manufacturing, production plants must first undertake chemical synthesis. Delta 10 is often used in states where Delta 8 THC is illegal. This is due to the legal ambiguity of the isomer in many jurisdictions. Much about the legality of Delta 10 is covered below.

Distinguishing Factors Between Delta 8 and 10

To decide which of the two is your preferred isomer, here are some of the primary distinguishing factors:

Potency

The logical point of departure when distinguishing Delta 10 and Delta 9 is the potency factor because anyone using THC is pursuing the substance because of its psychoactive effects. Delta 8 THC has a significantly higher potency than Delta 10, presumably because of the distinguishing cannabinoid ratios between the two. Additionally, the high content of CBD, another type of cannabinoid in the plant that causes psychoactivity contributes to the duration of the high. Thus, consuming Delta 8 produces a longer-lasting high than Delta 10.

Regarding onset time, Delta 8 kicks off faster than Delta 10, regardless of the consumption mechanism. Even in edible THC products, which generally have a longer onset time, when distinguishing Delta 8 edibles and Delta 10 edibles, you will notice that Delta 10 edibles take longer for their effects to show. This also contributes to the potency differences between the two kinds of products.

Effects After Consumption

The kind of high and euphoria you experience after taking low doses of Delta 8 is uplifting and energizing. Thus, you may be able to kickstart your day with some Delta 8 products. However, as the effects begin to wear down, you may experience a lulling sensation coupled with relaxation.

On the other hand, Delta 10 is more of what you would consider a downer. This is because, unlike Delta 8, which has an immediate uplifting effect, Delta 8 THC has a lulling sensation immediately after consumption. This is coupled with a relaxed sensation. Therefore, it is not advisable to begin your day with a hit of Delta 10 unless you plan on relaxing all day.

While Delta 8 is notorious for possible paranoia and anxiety after consumption, Delta 10 THC does not have such attributes. Thus, the after-consumption effects are mild compared to those of Delta 8.

Legality

A discussion on cannabis and its types would not be complete without a discussion on legality. On the federal level, The Farm Bill of 2018 mentions Delta 9 THC. The law states that any substance with more than 0.3% of THC content in dry weight is a controlled substance. In the law, any mention of THC relates to Delta 9 THC. However, since Delta 8 and 10 are not expressly mentioned, there is a loophole that cannabis enthusiasts can exploit.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Go For?

If you want to experience a potent, quick onset period and long-lasting high, Delta 8 is the way to go. However, if the high you want is slow and lulled with a short duration, Delta 10 is the best option. Note that Delta 10 has an advantage over Delta 8 in terms of the after-effects of the substance since it does not result in paranoia or anxiety.

Both Delta 10 and Delta 8 have their merits and demerits. The choice of which one of the two you should go for should be considered from the lens of what effect you want to sustain from the product. Every cannabis user has their preference to that extent.
